De huid incisie is afhankelijk van welke operatieve toegang Dr. Van Daele kiest. Niet alle hernia's en alle discussen zijn met beide toegangen bereikbaar, bij keuze tussen te twee wordt de meest weefsel sparende route verkozen.

Een discus hernia ziet er beetje uit als mastiek (stopverf) of harde kauwgom.

Het aspect ervan van variëren van zeer smeuïg tot uitgedroogd en hard.
